Legal requirements for Marrying in Australia

I will help you complete all the necessary legal paperwork which I will supply you with.

Here is a brief rundown on what you need to know :

You need to complete and lodge your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM), this form can be lodged eighteen months or at least one month one day prior to your set wedding date.  I will assist you in completing this form.

In Australia you must be 18 years and over to be legally married.  In you were born in Australia you must produce your birth certificates, if overseas, your birth certificate or your passport from your country of birth.  If either of you have been previously married you must provide your Divorce Decree Absolute papers, and/or if either of your spouses are deceased you must produce the Death Certificate.  All certificates must be the original copy, photocopies are unacceptable.

You must both sign the Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage before your marriage ceremony can take place.  This is normally completed at rehearsals, this is a legal document and must be witnessed by your marriage celebrant.

On your wedding day you will need  two (2) witnesses over the age of 18 who have witnessed and understood the ceremony.
